Clyde Drexler ecstatic on Damian Lillard taking Blazers’ all-time scoring crown next season

Clyde Drexler is looking beyond the 2022-23 season wherein Damian Lillard is poised to break his all-time scoring leadership since 1995 for the Portland Trail Blazers.

According to the all-time great swingman, there is no other player who is deserving to surpass him than Lillard, who stands as an undisputed Blazer for life.

“You and I know records are made to be broken, but I can’t think of a better player or person to break the record than Dame,” Drexler told Yahoo! Sports’ Chris Haynes. “He exemplifies being a team player and going about his business in a professional way. I have nothing but admiration and respect for him. When he comes close to getting the record, and if our schedules align, I would love to be there to help out in any way I can. That’s a nice milestone to achieve. I am looking forward to him accomplishing that.”

Drexler currently holds the top post of Portland’s scoring leaderboard, compiling 18,040 total points.

On the side of Lillard, who has been in the franchise through ups and downs since 2012, he currently has 17,510 markers. Should he manage to at least maintain or surpass his career scoring average of 24.6 points for 22 games played next campaign, he will then take over the franchise’s scoring throne.

As arguably the greatest Blazer in history, cementing his legacy in terms of the franchise’s scoring numbers is truly a sweet achievement for Lillard.
