Even before they officially share the court as teammates, Desmond Bane is already giving major props to the new guy in town Danny Green.

Bane revealed that he modelled his game directly from the form and play style of Green – who has been a reputable 3-and-D wingman and an important piece of three championship teams.

“That’s a guy I really looked up to coming into the league,” Bane said. “When people would ask me for player comparisons and who I wanted to be like and the type of career I wanted to have—he was the name.”

“[Green] shot the ball well,” Bane said. “[He is a] good defender, won championships, always on winning teams. That’s the type of legacy that I want to carry.”

In response, the veteran can only be humble enough from what he heard from the side of Bane, who is now a rising star after a robust 21-22 stint with the Grizzlies.

“To see a guy like that model his game after me … I’m not an all-star, never been a superstar with any team. It’s very humbling,” Green said at Grizzlies media day Monday. “He’s a guy that one day could be a superstar—an all star.”

Green, who was shipped by the Philadelphia 76ers this offseason to Tennessee, is slated to remain as a Grizzly. Upon the tearing of his ACL and LCL in last postseason, he already conditioned himself to guide the promising squad as a mentor on the locker room anr sidelines before he dribbles again sometime this forthcoming season.

“I try to help guide them with some things, so once they learn to do that, it’ll translate onto the court,” Green said.

“A lot of guys like to do the social media; the TikTok, the tweets. We can try to limit that a bit—focus on staying locked in to the game and treating the game the right way.”
