Chicago Bulls high executive Arturas Karnisovas addressed the reporters on the team’s media day this Monday. One of the hot topics around the club’s availability is revolving around Lonzo Ball.

Ball is set to undergo arthroscopic surgery on left knee this week – the second one he’ll take in eight months. The two-way point guard was shelved in the Bulls’ 47 games last season due to a bothering knee injury that wasn’t able to fully recover.

Karnisovas revealed that both the Bulls and Lonzo’s camp were very much determined to avoid the procedure, but unfortunately it has to be taken in the late stage of this offseason.

“We gave every opportunity (for Ball) to rehab and get back on the court without doing a surgery. That was our thought process, and we (did that) obviously with the thought in mind what’s best for the player,” Karnišovas told reporters. “We’re at a crossroads now that we need to do something else and that’s why we opted in to do the procedure.”

Regarding the timeline, Chicago placed a four to six weeks span for re-evaluation. As such, it remains uncertain when the guard can take over the court again.

“In terms of timeline, we don’t know what’s gonna be,” Karnišovas said. “As we reported (in) four to six weeks, we’re gonna re-evaluate him and see where he’s at.”

“I’m not a doctor,” Karnišovas told reporters. “So I’m just gonna wait and see what doctors will tell me.”
