Despite the constant trade rumors surrounding Russell Westbrook, the Lakers head coach Darvin Ham said only good words about the point guard during the media day.

Ham, who promised to significantly improve the team’s defense, said that the former NBA MVP is committed to being a great defender and has bought in into his vision.

“He’s been awesome,” Ham said about Westbrook. “Everything I’ve asked of him, he’s done. If I have asked him to come in and marinate with the young guys, he’s done that throughout his own individual regiment and training methods he’s done for years.

“Any time, again, we call him, we talk to him everything has been about being selfless, being team oriented, having a defensive mindset holding him to that – words that came out of his own mouth that he’s gonna be at a very high level defensively along with the rest of our roster.

“That communication, that trust that we’ve developed throughout the summer we expect to carry when the camp starts and throughout the season.”

Last season Westbrook averaged 18.5 points, 7.4 rebounds and 7.1 assists in 34.3 minutes per game for the Lakers.
