Award-winning actress Nia Long finally breaks her silence with regards to the Ime Udoka scandal in the Boston Celtics.
In an email she delivered to the Boston Globe, Long has requested privacy in order to process the unexpected events that transpired from the past few days and continue to be focused on her children. As such, she is very much thankful for the heartwarming love and support being given to her from the challenging times she’s currently facing.

Actress Nia Long has issued her first statement following the yearlong suspension of her longtime partner, Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka. In an emailed statement to Boston.com Friday morning, the award-winning actress asked for privacy to “process the recent events” and vowed to “continue to focus” on her children. “The outpouring [of] love and support from family, friends and the community during this difficult time means so much to me,” Long said. “I ask that my privacy be respected as I process the recent events. Above all, I am a mother and will continue to focus on my children.”
Udoka created a raucous buzz around the league after reports have confirmed that he had an improper consensual relationship with a female member of the Celtics team. As relayed by Shams Charania of The Athletic, the staffer accused Udoka of unwanted remarks, which forced the franchise authority to conduct sets of internal interviews.
The 43-year-old mentor was suspended by Boston from his head coaching duties for the entirety of the 2022-2023 season. His assistant, Joe Mazzulla, will take over as the team’s interim head coach.
Both Long and Udoka have been in a relationship for over 10 years. The two have a son named Kez Sunday, who was born in 2011.
The couple became engaged in 2015.
