When the Clippers signed Kawhi Leonard and Paul George in 2019, the hopes were high that the team will compete for its first championship.

Three years later the Clippers are still without a title. However, that does not stop the team’s owner Steve Ballmer from investing in the roster. According to NBA insider Brian Windhorst, Ballmer’s side will have the highest payroll in the NBA this coming season.

“The financial might of the Clippers is as great as any team in American sports,” he said on ESPN’s NBA Today. “The Warriors set a record for the all-time spending last year, the Clippers will have the highest payroll this year.

“When you look at the contracts they have signed – all kinds of talent and depth – Zubac, Terence Mann, Luke Kennard, Marcus Morris, Covington, Jackson – all those guys are tradable. So, not only is this team got George and Kawhi and healthy for the time being, they have the ability to outspend everybody.

“There’s only one team that can outspend the Warriors. It is Steve Ballmer. They will continue to spend. So, not only do they have a good team of healthy, they have the ability, unlike the Lakers, potentially because they have all these assets to trade to improve as the season goes on.”
