Doug McDermott shopped by Spurs, ‘only received lukewarm interest’

Sharpshooter guard Doug McDermott has been “shopped” by the San Antonio Spurs, but “only received lukewarm interest” in return from the league’s marketplace (h/t Spurs Talk’s LJ Ellis).

Per Ellis, McDermott is being considered as having a “negative trade value” due to those two years remaining in his contract worth $27.5 million, but the Spurs appears unwilling to attach several key pieces just to ship him out.

“Rival scouts insist that McDermott has a negative trade value due to the two years and $27.5 million he has remaining on his contract. However, the Spurs aren’t interested in attaching an asset to McDermott in order to move him.”

The 30-year-old McDermott arrived in Texas in last year’s offseason via sign-and-trade agreement with the Indiana Pacers for three-year, $41MM deal.

McDermott remained sizzling hot for the Spurs in the previous season, putting up an average of 11.3 points, 2.3 rebounds, 46.2 percent shooting from the field and an efficient 42.2 percent marks from trifecta for 24.0 minutes of play (51 games). Last March, he was sidelined for the rest of the season due to a grade 3 ankle sprain.

His number of appearances might have bothered also his trade value, which makes teams skeptical to move for him.

Unlike him, Jakob Poeltl and Josh Richardson are compiling offers from other teams.
