Rob Pelinka reacts to Lakers signing Dennis Schroder

Dennis Schroder was signed by the Lakers after playing a big game forGermany in EuroBasket 2022 semi-final against Spain. The 29-year-old had game-high 30 points and 8 assists as his team lost (91-96) to the reigning world champions.

It will be his second spell with the Purple & Gold. He spent a season in Los Angeles in 2020-2021. Last season Schroder split between the Celtics and the Rockets.

Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka reacted to the addition of the German point guard. “We are extremely pleased to welcome Dennis back to the Lakers,” he said, per Mike Trudell. “Not only do Dennis and Coach Ham share a player-coach history together, but they also reflect one another’s mentality of toughness with an extremely competitive edge.

“Dennis will add both depth and an on-ball defensive presence to our core at the guard position. He is also a proven scorer and playmaker. We are really excited for Dennis to get to camp and get back to work in L.A. after his highly successful run with his national team this offseason.”

Schroder averaged 13.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game last season. He became the third point guard on the Lakers roster along with Russell Westbrook and Patrick Beverley.

Interestingly, earlier this offseason Schroder made a comment on Instagram in response to LeBron James asking if he would like to ‘run it back.’
