Jeff Hornacek is returning to a familiar place wherein he’ll serve as a mentor of its newest basketball generation.

Sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski that Hornacek will make a return to the Utah Jazz to serve as a coaching consultant.

Hornacek, 57, previously served as an assistant for the Houston Rockets for the past two seasons. He also has a head coaching experience for the Phoenix Suns (2013-2016) and New York Knicks (2016-2018).

He’ll help newly-named head coach Will Hardy and his staff with regards to coaching decision. With Utah going for a full-blown rebuild, his guidance will be much needed for familiarity moving forward.

The Jazz have retained the assistant coaching services of Alex Jensen, Lamar Skeeter, Bryan Bailey, and Irv Roland, who helped in the past few years of Quin Snyder’s leadership. Meanwhile, Evan Bradds and former NBA pro Jason Terry are some of their new additions.

Hornacek, a former Jazzman during his playing days, served as one of the main cores of the club’s height of power in the late 90s — helping Karl Malone, John Stockton and Utah to reach back-to-back Finals appearances in both 1997 and 1998.

His No. 44 jersey is up in the rafters of the Vivint Arena. He currently holds the franchise’s records in three-point field goal percentage (42.8 percent) and free throw percentage (89.7).
