Rumors: Knicks to look for the ‘next disgruntled player’ for a trade, OKC’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander frequently being mentioned

As the Donovan Mitchell trade saga comes to an end, the New York Knicks could reportedly add another promising cager into their radar.

As told by New York Post’s Marc Berman, Oklahoma City Thunder Canadian wonder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is frequently mentioned as a potential target for New York, wherein the franchise is said “will be on the lookout for the next disgruntled player who goes on the trading block.”

The Knicks will be on the lookout for the next disgruntled player who goes on the trading block with Oklahoma City point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander previously mentioned. Ironically, the Knicks passed on him in the 2108 draft, much like they whiffed on Mitchell in 2017. Gilgeous-Alexander could be a better fit with Brunson than Mitchell.

After being acquired from the blockbuster Paul George trade with the Los Angeles Clippers in 2019 offseason, Gilgeous-Alexander has planted himself as the cornerstone of the franchise.

With his incredible scoring, on-court vision, and ability to navigate the ball, OKC was convinced that he will be their player of the future, inking him to a five-year, $173 million maximum rookie extension last year.

Gilgeous-Alexander is locked on this given hefty contract until the 2026-27 season, but the franchise’s  remarkable motives to maintain a rebuild and that personal desire to win could alter his plans to stick around and finally request for a greener pasture.

As the Knicks are moving forward with their boatload of picks available, it is safe to assume that there is a chance that Thunder exec Sam Presti will entertain conversations in the unforeseeable future.

Gilgeous-Alexander had a career year last season for Oklahoma City, averaging 24.5 points, 5.9 assists, 5.0 boards, 1.3 steals in 45.3 percent shooting. Despite these numbers, his team settled for another low finish in the Western Conference, which resulted for them to net Chet Holmgren for the second pick of the recent NBA Draft. He was limited for 56 games after being shelved due to ankle issues.
