Vanessa Bryant, the wife of the late Kobe Bryant, will be awarded a sum of $16 million from Los Angeles County after a federal jury ruled in her favor on Wednesday, per the Associated Press (H/T The Athletic).

The widow took the county to task, citing emotional distress caused by photos of her husband and daughter Gianna leaked following their fateful crash on January 26, 2020. A jury returned with a unanimous verdict, having considered the facts for less than five hours.

The photos in question were taken by deputies and firefighters, who subsequently shared them. Several employees of the LA County sheriff’s office, as well as friends, family, and a particular bartender were understood to be in receipt.

“I live in fear every day of being on social media and these popping up,” Vanessa testified. “I live in fear of my daughters being on social media and these popping up.”

Chris Chester, a co-plaintiff, was also awarded $15 million as his wife and daughter were among those who lost their lives in the crash.
