There seems to be a mutual interest between the Knicks and Donovan Mitchell. While New York and Utah are still working out potential trade, legendary coach Rick Pitino says that the 25-year-old shooting guard would love to be a Knick.

Pitino pointed out Mitchell’s close ties to the city with his father working for the Mets and mother working at Greenwich Country Day. The coach hopes that eventually the two sides come to an agreement which would send the Jazz star to New York.

“Donovan’s dad works for the Mets, his mom obviously works at Greenwich Country Day,” Rick Pitino said in response to a question from the Post. “Donovan loves the Knicks, Donovan loves being around his mom, his sister, his dad. Donovan works out for Chris Brickley who also played for me in New York City. Donovan would treasure, he would love to be a New York Knick. But that being said, things have to work out. I’m hoping, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that he becomes a Knick. it would be very special for me as his coach to see him in a Knicks uniform, as an ex-Knicks coach.”

This past season Mitchell averaged 25.9 points, 4.2 rebounds and 5.3 assists in 33.8 minutes per game.
