The New York Knicks are reluctant to part ways with Derrick Rose amid whispers that his current contract will play a huge part in their pursuit for a Donovan Mitchell trade.

Per Utah Jazz insider Tony Jones, the Knicks reportedly “want to hang onto” the former league MVP, citing head coach Tom Thibodeau’s favoritism on him.

Further, New York is contemplating to give up their young players who got a team-friendly deal respectively.

So far, the Knicks remain as a favored club to land the All-star guard, but their discussions with the Jazz are stagnant as it is based on what sources have validated. Utah currently stands motivated to acquire a much lucrative future assets from Mitchell, if compared to what they acquired from the Minnesota Timberwolves via Rudy Gobert cut

Rose still has two years left in his deal, with a team option worth $15.5 million on the 2023-2024 season. Given the amount, it could certainly shade salary matching woes for the Knicks to acquire Mitchell, who remains under max contract for four more years.
