Maxwell finally gave us the answer to that question at 2022 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.

“He (Payton) did something to Shammond Williams. We was cooking them, we was cooking him and Brent Barry. We was cooking them, and then he went and just elbowed the s*** out of Shammond. Busted his s*** open. I was like, ‘Yo, man! What the f***! Why’d you do that, dude?’ And then I just lost it.”
