The Denver Nuggets considered a serious issue on why they didn’t retain DeMarcus Cousins this summer.
Per Harrison Wind of TheDNVR.com, the franchise was reportedly concerned over the said big man’s availability and health.
Cousins, following three consecutive 10-day deals, was signed by the Nuggets for the remainder of the second half of 2021-22 season. Amid productivity by averaging 8.9 points with 5.5 boards and his serviceable presence behind reigning two-time MVP Nikola Jokic, he battled a series of calf and foot injuries.
The former star big man has a long history of battling numerous injuries and unavailability issues throughout his career, stemming from those days as the main man of the Sacramento Kings.
Further noted by Wind, Denver is leaning towards paint protection and a lob threat, choosing Jordan as the new huge body off the bench and inking him to a one-year deal.
Last season, Denver gave up a 49.9 points average in the paint, the sixth worst in the league. Though Jordan is now on a shell of his former self, he is, perhaps, a decent choice to at least alleviate the said issue.
Denver performed great offseason move under the control of new lead executive Calvin Booth, gaining the versatile Bruce Brown via two-year deal and securing swingman Kentavious Caldwell-Pope in a long-term picture after their acquisition from the Washington Wizards.
With both Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr. expected to be fully rejuvenated after long recoveries, the Nuggets are being projected as one of the title favorites this approaching basketball year.
