Marcus Smart delivers free agency pitch for Celtics

Marcus Smart have some words intended for those players who will hit the free agency marketplace this July.

The reigning Defensive Player of the Year believes Boston is an ideal place for seekers of a selfless ball club, noting that their recent playoff run has served its own purpose.

“We got a bad rep in Boston for free agents,” Smart said, via team insider Mark Murphy. “This year we opened a lot of eyes to how this team really is.

The last big-time free agent that the Celtics have acquired was Gordon Hayward back in the 2017 offseason. Though it was a huge accomplishment for the team at that time, the signing didn’t go well as planned based on what happened from the previous seasons.

Now fresh from their great Finals exploits, the Cs might be considered by some notable free agents as a great destination to chase history.

With the core of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown keeps improving, the title window remains open for the franchise in the upcoming years to come

“It’s not everybody for themselves. Everybody is for each other, and I think maybe free agents think ‘I can give it a shot in Boston.’ We’ll see.”
