Knicks to clear for $25M cap space to pursue Jalen Brunson; expected to deal Alec Burks, Nerlens Noel

The Knicks are continuing to prepare for their hunt to land Jalen Brunson in the Big Apple.

New York is reportedly trying to clear a cap space worth $25 million to go for the 25-year-old guard this summer (h/t Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer). As such, they are also expected to ship away some assets like Alec Burks and Nerlens Noel.

The former Villanova star has been a long rumored interest of the Knicks throughout the year. Earlier this month, the club hired his father, Rick Brunson, to become an assistant coach under Tom Thibodeau.

Brunson is set to take the open market as an unrestricted one, but multiple sources have indicated that there’s a strong chance he’ll be back wearing a Mavs uniform and strike a deal with lead exec Nico Harrison for years of extended partnership.

Together with Dallas, Brunson had a wonderful 2021-2022 season, making it through the Western Conference Finals while averaging 21.6 points, 4.6 boards, 3.7 assists in 18 postseason occasions.
