Kevin Porter Jr., Jae’Sean Tate approached Rockets brass to talk about contract extension

Two of the main brilliant pieces of the Houston Rockets have approached the franchise brass for a potential contract extension.

Per Kelly Iko of The Athletic, representatives for both Kevin Porter Jr. and Jae’Sean Tate came over to the Rockets office to talk about inking an extended partnership.

Both Porter Jr. and Tate are eligible to ink a new deal, but it goes down on Houston’s willingness to commit.

Porter Jr. can grab a rookie-scale extension this summer, but he’ll turn into an unrestricted free agent once he won’t be able to land an agreement with Rafael Stone and the co. before the 2022-2023 season tips off.

Meanwhile on the side of Tate, the Rockets can wait until next year if they will sign an offer sheet, knowing that the forward entered the team in 2020 as an undrafted free agent.

With the recent departure of Christian Wood to the Dallas Mavericks, Houston is slated to provide more time and investment to their youth program. Bannered also by Jalen Green, Alperen Sengun, Josh Christopher, Usman Garuba and the future top three pick, the squad remains as one of the most highly coveted around the league.

The Rockets finished the season with a 20-62 record and will likely to continue their rebuild project.
