Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr. is open in owning an NBA team in the future.

And possibly landing it in Vegas.

The retired boxer recently detailed that he and his team are “working behind the scenes” and has been in communication with the NBA to join an ownership group to avail a ball club.

“I’ve been talking to certain individuals for the last six months,” Mayweather said, in courtesy of Sam Gordon of Las Vegas Review-Journal. “That’s something I’ve been working on behind the scenes, but I’ve never came out and publicly talked about that with the media. Me and my team have been working behind the scenes with the NBA. I can’t say exactly where, but I’m working on getting a team.”

Mayweather revealed last year that his net worth breached the $1.2 billion mark. As such, he’ll need partners to go for a bid in owning a franchise.

He claimed that he’ll prefer to gain a basketball organization standing in Las Vegas, but reiterated that he’s “going to have a team, whether it’s in Vegas or not in Vegas.”

“I’ve been working on that for a good while now,” Mayweather added. “I’ve been working behind the scenes. I didn’t want to bring it out until it was engraved in stone.”

Earlier this month, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver dismissed the murmurs about increasing the number of teams in the league.

Las Vegas and Seattle are two of the top contending places being discussed in the NBA horizon as potential expansion cities of the association.
