Dejounte Murray on Ime Udoka: “He’s a motivator”

In his first year as a head coach Ime Udoka has led the Celtics all the way to the NBA Finals, a feat that the team has waited for 14 years. Boston won Game 1 against the Warriors after a huge rally in the fourth quarter.

Dejounte Murray, who is familiar with Udoka from his days as an assistant coach on the Spurs, says that he is a motivator and loves basketball.

“I knew Jayson, Jaylen, the rest of the core – and they’ve got D. White over there now — but I just knew their whole core would love him because he really loves basketball,” Murray said about Udoka, per Michael C. Wright. “He’s a motivator. He’ll tell you, ‘Who cares that you turned it over?’

“‘Who cares that you missed that shot? I just want you to play hard. That comes with the game. As long as you play hard and give it your all, I’m gonna back you up 110%.’ That’s the type of coach you want to play for.”
