Ime Udoka on making NBA Finals: “Feels like it was always meant to be this way”

In his first year as a head coach, Ime Udoka led the Celtics to the NBA Finals where they will face the Warriors. The last hurdle was the best regular season team in the Eastern Conference, the Heat.

The series went down the wire as it took seven games to decide who will make it to the Finals. Udoka described Game 7 as a typical Celtics win with his team creating a big lead and then still having to grind it out in the end.

“Feels great. It’s been a long road obviously throughout the season,” Udoka said. “Feels like it was always meant to be this way. Difficult obviously. Two Game 7’s in the last two series. It shows what I said about our group. Tonight seemed to kind of tip a fire season.

“Had a 17-point lead, led start to finish. That was good, we got off to a good start, but can’t ever quite slam the door, we have to grind it out. Bottom line is if we hold somebody in the 90’s, we feel good about ourselves. So, this is a typical Celtics win.”
