Nets yet to talk with Kyrie Irving about his future

Kyrie Irving will be entering the final year of his current contract if he chooses to exercise his player option this summer. If he decides to opt out, the former NBA champion will be eligible to sign a four-year, $189.7 million extension or a five-year, $245.6 million deal.

But those discussions are still in future, according to Brooklyn’s general manager Sean Marks. Irving himself has previously said that he wants to remain teammates with Kevin Durant.

Talks between Irving, Marks and Nets owner Joe Tsai have yet to happen. “I look forward to ,” Marks told YES Network. “We have not had a conversation yet. So I look forward to getting in a room with him and Joe and his team, and we will. We’ll see what it looks like for Kyrie moving forward here, and what he needs from us and so forth.”

This past season Irving averaged 27.4 points, 4.4 rebounds and 5.8 assists in 37.7 minutes per game for the Nets. The team that was favored to win it all had to go through the Play-In tournament to qualify for the playoffs where it was eliminated by the Celtics.
