Draymond Green: “One thing I don’t respect is people who only bring it when they’re winning”

The Warriors were destroyed by the Grizzlies in Game 5 of the second round series. Despite missing Ja Morant, Memphis overwhelmed Golden State right from the start. At one point in second half the Dubs were down by as many as 55 points and the game was good as over.

With 8:40 left to play in the fourth quarter the Grizzlies were up by 46 points as the crowd celebrated to “Whoop That Trick” that was performed inside FedExForum. Draymond Green joined the celebrations of the opposing fans. After the game he was asked about that episode.

“They’re not going Whoop That Trick alone, we’re going Whoop That Trick together, if we’re going to Whoop That Trick,” Green said postgame. “One thing I don’t respect is people who only bring it when they’re winning. You know, embrace crowds when you’re winning.

“We call those front runners. We’re not front runners. We got our ass kicked. That’s alright. It happens. But you don’t be front runner when you spew it out, you got to be willing to take it and not hide from it, not duck from it. Embrace it.

“I appreciated the crowd tonight and the energy that they brought to the game. If they want to Whoop That Trick, we gonna whoop them again.”
