Steve Kerr: “Dillon Brooks broke the code”

Draymond Green was given Flagrant 2 foul in Game 1 of the second round series between the Warriors and Grizzlies. In Game 2 it was a Memphis player Dillon Brooks who received the same kind of penalty.

The 26-year-old small forward was ejected after just three minutes of play after he hit Gary Payton II in the head while the Golden State guard was in the air to make a layup.

“He’ll have an MRI tomorrow, but it’s confirmed that he’s got a fractured elbow and the MRI will help determine how long Gary will be out,” Dubs head coach Steve Kerr said postgame.

“I don’t know if it was intentional but it was dirty. Playoff basketball it’s supposed to be physical, everybody’s gonna compete, everybody’s gonna fight for everything.

“But there’s a code in this league, there’s a code that players follow where you never put a guy’s season/career in jeopardy by taking somebody out in mid-air and clubbing them across the head and ultimately fracturing Gary’s elbow.

“This is a guy who’s been toiling the last six years trying to make it in this league. Finally found a home. Just playing his but off this year, in the playoffs this should be the time of his life and a guy comes in and whacks his across the head in mid-air. He broke the code. Dillon Brooks broke the code.”
