Joel Embiid on James Harden: “He just needs to be aggressive and he needs to be himself”

After going 3-0 in the round series against the Raptors, the 76ers lost two games in a row. In Game 5 Philadelphia was beaten heavily (88-105) as Joel Embiid was the only player to score 20 points.

He was followed by Tobias Harris and James Harden who scored 16 and 14 points respectively. The latter took 11 shots which was the fourth most shot attempts on the team.

The Cameroonian center stressed the importance of Harden taking more shots, saying that it is on Doc Rivers to tell that to his teammate.

“I’ve been saying all season since got here, he just needs to be aggressive and he needs to be himself,” Embiid said postgame. “That’s not really my job. That’s probably on coach to talk to him and tell him to take more shots, especially if they’re gonna guard me the way they’ve been guarding. That’s really not my job.

“But we all need to be better offensively, like I said, we missed a bunch of wide open shots and at times I just felt like we’re just invited when I was getting doubled we were not aggressive attacking the ball.

“We just kept moving around the ball on the perimeter and that gave them time to recover and that’s why we were not able to get anything out of it. That’s what they’re going to keep doing. We got to take advantage of it.”
