Toronto Raptors rookie forward Scottie Barnes will miss tonight’s Game 2 of the team’s playoff series against the Philadelphia 76ers, head coach Nick Nurse told reporters.
Barnes suffered a left ankle sprain in Game 1 where he finished with 15 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists, and was wearing a walking boot on his left foot today.
The 20-year-old Rookie of the Year finalist said he isn’t sure about a timeline but is feeling better with each day.
“I’m still a very positive, happy human being. Just taking it one day at a time,” said Barnes. “I thought it was going to be bad. I hit the ground and I was like, damn, it’s just the beginning and I’m just getting started. But after I was just trying to have positive thoughts.”
While Barnes has been ruled out, guard Gary Trent Jr. and forward Thaddeus Young are both also considered doubtful for Game 2.
Trent is dealing with a non-COVID illness, while Young is going to try to work with the training staff to get his sprained thumb in a place where he can play.
The 76ers lead the best-of-seven series 1-0 and will look to defend home court and take a 2-0 lead.
