NBA Lineup Notes: Schroder, Griffin, Jackson, Lamb, Millsap, Jordan, Davis, Layman, Bazemore, Augustin, Ellington, Dieng, Hood, Snell

Taking a look at some 2022 NBA free agents.

  • Going into 2021-22, I didn’t think it could get any worse for veteran point guard Dennis Schroder after turning down 4 years-$84 million from the LA Lakers and eventually signing with the Celtics for 1 year-$5 million, but it actually did. The 28-year-old was traded at the deadline to the league worst Houston Rockets while Boston got a whole lot better without him. Schroder is clearly still an NBA player. However, his contract value and interest from playoff teams have gone way down since 2020-21.
  • I can still see Brooklyn’s Blake Griffin making an impact for a team off the bench in 2022-23. He only appeared in 56 games this season, but still ended up being tied for 1st in the NBA in charges drawn (26). That’s quite the accomplishment on defense for someone who had 25 DNP’s and 1 inactive.
  • Sacramento’s Josh Jackson & Jeremy Lamb shot the ball poorly in short minutes (Jackson- 40.0% FG, Lamb- 38.3% FG) and now face uncertain futures going into their free agent summers. Jackson was the #4 pick in 2017 by Phoenix and averaged a career high 13.4 PPG with Detroit in 2020-21. As for Lamb, he averaged a combined 13.2 PPG in four straight seasons with Charlotte & Indiana before having his minutes go down in 2021-22.
  • Here’s more players who I believe will have a tough time getting an NBA contract next season: Philadelphia’s Paul Millsap & DeAndre Jordan, Cleveland’s Ed Davis, Minnesota’s Jake Layman, the LA Lakers’ Kent Bazemore, DJ Augustin, & Wayne Ellington, Atlanta’s Gorgui Dieng, the LA Clippers’ Rodney Hood, and New Orleans’ Tony Snell.
