NBA rumors: Pacers creating impression around league circles that they’ll trade Malcolm Brogdon after the season

The Indiana Pacers are reportedly leaving an impression on rival teams that they will ship Malcolm Brogdon this offseason (h/t league insider Marc Stein).

The Pacers, who pulled the trigger and traded away their main man Domantas Sabonis, were prohibited to attach Brogdon to a deal this season after the guard inked a two-year extension worth $45 million last October. He’ll become eligible to be dealt this upcoming summer.

HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto has provided that there is an expectation where Indiana and Brogdon might part ways moving forward, with the acquisition of talented Tyrese Haliburton and the development of Chris Duarte being two of the key factors. The franchise is likely headed to the lottery this next NBA Draft with a 25-55 record and could shift its focus towards a major rebuild.

As such, if Indy will commit themselves to their youth movement, sticking around the 29-year-old Brogdon is a less ideal situation to have with. Though it’ll be difficult to move the hefty $65.5 million left in his contract due to durability issues, certain teams might still entertain a transaction and consider acquiring him as a reliable ball-handler and perimeter defender.

Throughout 36 games in this injury-riddled 2021-2022 season, Brogdon recorded an average of 19.1 points, 5.9 assists, and 5.1 rebounds in over 44 percent efficiency from the field.
