With three games remaining in the regular season, the Los Angeles Lakers announced today they have requested waivers on small forward Trevor Ariza. According to Dave McMenamin, an open roster spot allows the Lakers to convert a two-way player like power forward Wenyen Gabriel and sign him to a contract that includes non-guaranteed money beyond this season or take a flyer on another young player. Those types of contracts could also be helpful in trade maneuvers this summer.
