Injury update: Paul George progressing towards a return

Los Angeles Clippers star Paul George continues to progress in his injury rehab, as he went through 5-on-5 practice yesterday, according to head coach Ty Lue.

When asked if George could be cleared to play in a game this week, Lue said that the team will see how he’s feeling throughout the week.

Lue also said “regular basketball” when asked if there were any limitations on the 5-on-5 that George went through.

George, 31, last played on Dec. 22 before suffering a torn UCL in his right elbow and before that, was averaging 24.7 points, 7.1 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game in 26 games.

The Clippers are currently the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference and the return of the seven-time All-Star would be a welcome addition.

“Just having that hope that he [George] has a chance to come back, that gives them a lot of hope, especially the job this team has done this year, guys playing out of position, guys taking on bigger roles, you know?” Lue recently said. “The job the team has done this year, it’s phenomenal. But we could use an extra little bump right now, especially in these dog days, going down the stretch of the season.”

The Clippers will start out in the Play-In tournament and if they advance to the playoffs, they will then face a top team in the Western Conference, so adding George to the lineup would give them a realistic chance against anyone they face.
