It is his third season for Kyrie Irving with the Brooklyn Nets. Soon he will have to make a decision about his future. The 30-year-old point guard has a player option in his contract that he can exercise this coming summer.

Kyrie says that he is happy in Brooklyn and that should give hope for the Nets that they can keep the former NBA champion for the future. Head coach Steve Nash expressed optimism as well.

For Irving another important piece of deciding on his future is being teammates with Kevin Durant. The two superstars appear to be getting along fine.

“I think for me, it has always been about being comfortable, loving where I’m at, and I love it here,” said Irving, whose talks on a four-year, $186 million deal broke down when he refused to get vaccinated. The decision limited him to a road-only, part-time player. “Once that summertime hits, I know we’ll have some conversations. But there’s no way I can leave my man [Kevin Durant] anywhere.”

This season Irving is averaging 28.5 points, 4.6 rebounds and 5.5 assists in 36.5 minutes per game for Brooklyn. He has played just 20 games because of not being allowed to play in the Nets’ home games due to vaccine mandates in New York City.
