Former All-Star point guard Isaiah Thomas continues searching for an NBA deal. One team that could potentially be interested in signing the 33-year-old is the Boston Celtics, the same team in which IT had his best years.

His former head coach Brad Stevens is now president of basketball operations for the Celtics. Reportedly he is hesitant to sign Thomas because of a possible backlash that he would face for not renewing his 10-day deal.

“Brad Stevens, his former coach, is now president of basketball operations. And he has had numerous opportunities to sign Isaiah Thomas, even to a 10-day deal. But, privately, the organization believes Thomas wouldn’t play much and is below average defensively, and Stevens is hesitant to burn a roster spot, especially facing potential backlash if Thomas doesn’t have a 10-day contract renewed.”

Thomas has played 533 games in the NBA averaging 18 points, 2.4 rebounds and 4.9 assists in 28.8 minutes per game.

Currently he is on a 10-day deal with the Charlotte Hornets. This season he had such deals with the Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks.
