Pelicans to make available Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Jaxson Hayes for the ‘right upgrade’, per report

New Orleans Pelicans are expected to be buyers in the trade deadline as they are willing to make available several players in the trade deadline for the ‘right upgrade’.

According to Michael Scotto of Hoopshype, Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Jackson Hayes could be made available for the right price, while Josh Hart also has attracted interest from NBA teams.

“The New Orleans Pelicans appear to be buyers heading into the trade deadline and have expressed interest in trading for several players, including Harrison BarnesRobert Covington and Eric Gordon, league sources told HoopsHype. Rival executives also believe Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Jaxson Hayes are both available for the right upgrade as well.

“According to multiple executives, the Pelicans are more willing to listen on moving Alexander-Walker than in the past.Josh Hart is also a player to keep an eye on, thanks to his team-friendly contract, which is non-guaranteed next season, as noted on our Pelicans salary page. Some teams have liked him from afar. One of those teams is Atlanta.”

The Pelicans are at 19-32 two and a half-game out of the play-in tournament. According to Scotto, New Orleans will look to improve their veteran leadership by acquiring players like Harrison Barnes, Eric Gordon, or Robert Covington.

Alexander-Walker is averaging 12.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.8 assists through 48 games, but, his shooting splits are down to 37 percent from the field and 31 percent from deep.

Jaxson Hayes has recently become a regular member of the Pelicans’ rotation being the backup big behind Jonas Valanciunas. He averages 7.6 points and 3.7 rebounds in 15.2 minutes per game.
