Several teams reportedly calling Spurs on the availability of Dejounte Murray and Derrick White

Dejounte Murray, San Antonio Spurs

San Antonio Spurs are reportedly receiving calls on the availability of Dejounte Murray and Derrick White, as ESPN’s analyst Zach Lowe revealed in his latest ‘The Lowe Post’ podcast (H/T to RealGM).

The Spurs prepare for another postseason-less year being at 18-31, two spots away from the play-in tournament in the Western Conference. As a result, several teams seem interested in both Murray and White.

“I’ve also heard that people are calling the Spurs and trying to see if they can get Derrick white or even Dejounte Murray,” Lowe said on ‘The Lowe Post’.

Murray is in the second year of a four-year deal. He’s being mentioned as a breakout star this year, averaging 19.2 points, 8.4 rebounds, 9.1 assists, and 2.0 steals per game. At a team-friendly contract worth $15.4 million for this season, Murray could be a good option for any team looking for an upgrade in the point guard position.

On the other side, White has been on the first year of a four-year, $68 million extension. The 27-year-old guard has seen his shooting numbers slipping this season, but he remains a top perimeter defender alongside Murray in the Spurs’ defensive scheme. White averages 14.2 points and 5.6 assists on 41 percent shooting from the field through 44 games this year.

Recently, the Spurs were involved in a trade deal sending sharpshooter Bryn Forbes to Denver to free more playing time for Devin Vassell and Lonnie Walker in the rotation. The Spurs are two-and-a-half-game away from the play-in tournament, but, it’s unclear if they want to trade either Murray or White, especially with Murray having a career year.

In any case, we’re heading to the NBA trade deadline, which is set to take place on Feb.10 with several teams interested in either improving their chances for the postseason or the draft lottery next offseason.
