The future of Donovan Mitchell in Utah will depend on how well the Jazz do in this year’s NBA playoffs, a new report suggests. It is believed that the 25-year-old shooting guard wants to go to a bigger market with New York being his primary target.

Mitchell recently played down any trade talks and him wanting to move to a bigger market, attributing them to his team’s slump. However, an anonymous Eastern Conference scout is of a different opinion. He thinks that in case Utah exits playoffs in the first round, Spida will go to the Knicks.

Via Ric Bucher of Fox Sports:

“The incessant buzz around the league is that there are those in Mitchell’s circle who believe he is too big of a star for Salt Lake City. Further, some say it’s only a matter of time before he joins former Creative Artists Agency agent and current New York Knicks president Leon Rose “They’re a first-round exit from Donovan being in New York,” an Eastern Conference scout said.”

This season Utah’s star is averaging 25.5 points, 4 rebounds and 5.2 assists in 33.5 minutes per game. Mitchell is currently in his first year of a five-year contract with the Jazz. He is set to earn $28 million this season with an increase in salary by $2 million every following year.

The Jazz are currently sitting in the fourth place in the Western Conference with 30 wins and 19 defeats.
