Lakers head coach Frank Vogel was reportedly on a hot seat recently for his team’s disappointing results this season. After Los Angeles lost hopelessly against the Nuggets by 37 points, it was reported that Vogel’s position will be assessed on game-by-game basis, some thought that he would be fired right away.
However, it seems that the Lakers management decided to stick with the head coach who led the team to its 17th NBA championship in 2020. At least till the end of this season.
“It’s my understanding that the Lakers are moving forward with Frank Vogel,” ESPN’s Dave McMenamin said on SportsCenter on Monday, per Doric Sam of Bleacher Report. “I anticipate him to be head coach for the remainder of this season.”
Vogel penned a one-year contract extension this past offseason and would leave the team in summer if the parties don’t reach an agreement.
The Lakers are currently in a position to qualify for the play-in tournament. They are 8th in the Western Conference with 23 wins and 24 losses.
