Utah trade rumors: Jazz interested to pursue Robert Covington

The Utah Jazz has its eyes focused on Robert Covington.

In order to improve their defensive wing, the Portland Trail Blazers forward is reportedly garnering interest from the Jazz as their trade target (h/t Marc Stein).

Last week, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski stated that Portland remains willing to build around superstar Damian Lillard plenty of solid supporting cast, yet general manager Joe Cronin already made some discussions about the availability of Covington in the market.

The Jazz remains a force in the West with a 30-17 record, but a wing defender remains a missing piece on their part to attain greater heights of contention. Trading for Covington, who is playing the final year of the contract he signed last 2017, is a low-risk-high reward asset to look into. The 31-year-old forward is a much-needed versatile defender and a knockdown shooter from the long-distance if given such space, having a career 35 percent shooting from three-point land.

Covington is currently averaging 7.7 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.4 steals, 1.3 blocks in almost 40 percent efficiency from the field. While the Blazers have won six of their last eight games and are in the comfortable position of a Play-In slot, things are yet to determine if they will entertain a conversation with the Jazz for a fair price.
