Sixers could use Ben Simmons to get superstar in offseason, per report

Ben Simmons could finish this season without basketball. A recent report suggests that the Philadelphia 76ers are willing to wait for the offseason to use the 25-year-old point guard in a sign-and-trade deal to bring a superstar.

One that Philadelphia’s GM Daryl Morey would love to sign is James Harden who is set to become a restricted free agent in summer. The Nets superstar is thought to view the Sixers in a positive light and knows Morey very well from the time he played for the Rockets.

Via Shams Charania, Sam Amick of The Athletic:

“But multiple sources, including people with direct knowledge of the team’s thinking and also from rival teams involved on the Simmons front, tell The Athletic that the 76ers are believed to prefer to wait in order to pursue Harden or another superstar in the offseason and thus want to save Simmons for that potential sign-and-trade rather than take what’s available on the current market.”

The two teams that reportedly have the most interest in acquiring Simmons before the February 10 trade deadline are the Hawks and Kings. However, steep price tag set by the 76ers could be a deal breaker.
