Daily Gossip, Wednesday 4/3/15

So, the Atlanta Hawks are the first team officially in the Playoffs this season, Russell Westbrook is leading (or has to be leading) the MVP race and several 10-day contracts are being dealt left, right and center.

Anything else?

RAY ALLEN NOT PLAYING THIS SEASON

Veteran shooter Ray Allen has announced that he will not suit up for the remainder of the 2014-15 NBA season, a call that doesn’t really come as much of a surprise.

He didn’t rule out a return for next season, but Allen will be 40-years-old.

Via Tendem Sports:

Ten-time NBA All-Star Ray Allen will not play during the 2014-15 NBA season, announced his agent Jim Tanner, President of Tandem Sports + Entertainment. Allen will take the remainder of this season and the off-season to reassess for the 2015-16 NBA season.

“Over the past several months, I have taken a lot of time to deliberate what is best for me,” Allen said. “I’ve ultimately decided that I will not play this NBA season. I’m going to take the remainder of this season, as well as the upcoming off-season, to reassess my situation, spend time with my family and determine if I will play in the 2015-16 season.”

“Ray has received enormous interest from a number of NBA teams throughout this season,” Tanner said. “We will communicate with interested teams as Ray makes a decision for the 2015-16 season.”

SHAQ’S FAVOURITE GATHERS INTEREST

Shaqtin’A Fool legend JaVale McGee was recently waived by the Sixers but is making other teams around the league think about their roster space.

Golden State Warriors and Toronto Raptors are the two teams thinking about McGee at present.

The Warriors present a solid case in a bid for McGee’s signature as they would have him a back-up for Andrew Bogut.

DRAGIC TO THE D-LEAGUE … ZORAN, THAT IS.

We always thought it would be tough for Zoran Dragic to make a name for himself in the NBA, and the Miami Heat have announced that he is D-League-bound.

Via Miami Heat official release:

The Miami HEAT announced today that they have assigned guard Zoran Dragić to their NBA Development League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce.

Zoran has appeared in eight NBA games this season, including two with the HEAT since being acquired in a three-team trade on February 19, totaling six points, three rebounds and an assist in eight minutes of action. He spent last season with Unicaja Malaga in Spain, appearing in 22 Euroleague games and averaged 10.9 points, 2.7 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 22.5 minutes while shooting 41.3 percent from the field.
