The game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Memphis Grizzlies featured two players that deserve to be in the MVP race, according to five-time NBA champion Magic Johnson.

“Last night I watched two guys that should be considered in the MVP race, @Lakers LeBron James and Grizzlies guard Ja Morant,” Johnson tweeted. James, who recently turned 37 and is playing his 19th NBA season, was the game’s top scorer with 35 points, while the 22-year-old Morant had 16.

This season, Morant is averaging 24.7 points, 5.8 rebounds and 6.7 assists per game for Memphis. For his part, James is averaging 28.9 points, 7.4 rebounds and 6.6 assists per game. He is the second in the league in scoring behind Kevin Durant with 29.9 points per game.

The Grizzlies are now on a 9-game winning streak whereas the Lakers failed to record their fifth win in a row. Memphis is currently fourth in the Western Conference with 28 wins and 14 losses, while Los Angeles sits in the seventh place with a 21-20 record.

In the following tweet, Johnson named three more MVP candidates: Steph Curry, Kevin Durant and Giannis Antetokounmpo.
