Steph Curry played alongside his “splash brother” Klay Thompson after 941 days. Thompson, who made his return on Sunday vs Cleveland, had a great debut with the Golden State Warriors, helping the team secure a 96-82 victory.
Curry started the game strong with four made threes, while Klay started his first half performance with some impressive plays, including a thunderous dunk.
Thompson made his season debut in Sunday’s 96-82 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers, scoring 17 points in 20 minutes. The Warriors’ superstar missed the last two seasons after tearing his ACL in the 2019 NBA Finals and then tearing his Achilles in 2020.
“Shooting the basketball is what we do. The work that we put in since he got here, the level of inspiration we both have for each other and the internal competition helped me get to that point throughout my career,” Curry told reporters.
Curry finished with a game-high 28 points Sunday as he bounced back from a severe shooting slump that occurred in the last three games. Curry shot 29 percent from the field during this stint, and an abysmal 20 percent from deep.
He made 10 of his 21 shots Sunday and 4 of his 11 eleven threes, starting with a perfect 4-of-4 from beyond the arc. After the game, Curry praised Thompson for the effect he had on his game.
“It was amazing to honor him even though he wasn’t there. To let him know I’m not the shooter I am if I don’t get to see Klay every single day do what he does. He keeps you sharp, and you understand, like, if I want to shoot the ball the way I want to, there’s another guy that can do it too.”
The Warriors hope to have Curry and Thompson in perfect form, as both superstars want to add to their legacy with at least another championship.
