Boston Celtics legend, NBA Hall of Famer and 10-time NBA champion Sam Jones has passed away at age 88. Jones died Thursday night by natural causes, per a report.

A 6-foot-4 guard from Wilmington, N.C., Jones was drafted by Boston in the first round (eighth overall) in 1957 out of North Carolina Central. A true all-time great, Jones won 10 championships in Boston.

He retired in 1969 winning his 10th title with the team. Only Bill Russell has more NBA championships in Celtics’ history than “The Shooter”.

Jones averaged 17.7 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists in 871 career games from 1957-69. His number 24 was retired in 1969, while he entered the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 1984.

“Sam Jones will be remembered as one of the most prolific champions in all of professional sports. His selfless style, clutch performances & signature bank shot were hallmarks of an incredible career that featured 10 NBA championships in 12 seasons,” NBA commisioner Adam Silver said in his official statement.
