Maccabi Tel-Aviv retains Giannis Sfairopoulos as head coach

Maccabi Tel-Aviv has no desire to part ways with head coach Giannis Sfairopoulos, despite the eight-game losing streak in the EuroLeague.

The Israelis haven’t won in the EuroLeague since November 17 and have now dropped to 17-11, two wins away from the final playoff spot.

“The management of Maccabi Tel-Aviv basketball club met tonight, Thursday, and discussed the situation of the team. The management wants to put an end to the speculation and make it clear that Giannis Sfairopoulos will continue to coach Maccabi Tel Aviv.

At the same time, management will continue to explore all options for strengthening the group. The owners are interested in conveying a clear message to Maccabi’s dedicated and loyal fan base, that the current situation deprives them of sleep and that they are working night and day to bring the team back to the king’s road,” the team said in a statement.

Maccabi Tel-Aviv will seek to return to the winning track when they host Baskonia on Thursday.
