Steve Kerr officially takes over Team USA

Steve Kerr has officially become the new head coach of Team USA, replacing the legendary coach Gregg Popovich.

Grant Hill, the new Managing Director of USA Basketball, officially named Kerr the head coach of Team USA until 2024. The head coach of the Golden State Warriors was Popovich’s lead assistant in the 2019 Basketball World Cup and the 2020 Olympic Games.

“I’m incredibly honored and humbled to represent our country as the head coach for the USA Basketball Men’s National Team. It’s a thrilling opportunity and I’m excited for the challenge,” Steve Kerr said, via NBA.com. The veteran coach will be in charge of Team USA in the 2023 Basketball World Cup and the 2024 Olympics.

Gonzaga University head coach Mark Few, Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra and Phoenix Suns head coach Monty Williams will be Kerr’s assistant coaches.
