EuroLeague Round 16 (Day 1): Real Madrid survives late thriller over Armani Milano

Real Madrid remained on the winnng path, following its road win over Armani Milano at Mediolanum Forum (73-75).

The “Whites” were in control for the majority of the night and led by as many as 11 (62-73). However, the Italians closed the game on an 11-2 run and had the chance to win the game. Yet, Malcolm Delaney missed the game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer and the visitors escaped with a big road victory.

Real Madrid has now won two straight and climbed to 13-3 in the standings. On the contrary, Armani fell to 10-6, but is still fourth on the table.

FC Barcelona maintained the top spot in the EuroLeague, thanks to its 82-85 win over Panathinaikos in Athens. The “Greens” had the upper hand in the first half and led by as many as 13 (48-35).

Yet, the Catalans turned things around in the second half. They outscored the hosts 33-44 and went on to win the game. FC Barcelona improved to 14-2, claiming its eighth straight. On the contrary, Panathinaikos have now lost eight of their last 10 and fell to 4-12.

Anadolu Efes maintained a playoff push, thanks to its triumph over Maccabi Tel-Aviv on the road (78-92). It was a hard-fought battle for nearly 35 minutes (71-75). Yet, the Turks closed the game on a 7-17 run and sealed the deal.

Efes closed the double round week in a perfect way and improved to 8-8. Meanwhile, Maccabi dropped to 7-9 and now are on a six-game losing streak.

Fenerbahce made another step towards the playoff spots, after dominating Baskonia at home (75-53). A 24-14 run in the second quarter enabled the Turks to take a 15-point lead at halftime (43-28) and cruise to the victory.

This was the fourth straight win for Fenerbahce, which climbed to 7-9. For their part, the Basques lost another game and dropped to 5-11.
