Frank Vogel on Lakers’ big 3rd quarter vs. Magic

The Los Angeles Lakers appear to have shaken off their third quarter woes that they were dealing with at the start of the season. Last night, they limited the Orlando Magic to just 10 points in the third quarter while at the same time scoring 36 points themselves.

Orlando chipped at the Lakers lead in the final period, but it wasn’t enough for them to avoid the defeat. After the game, Los Angeles head coach Frank Vogel talked about what the key was for his team’s success in the third quarter.

“We’ll get stops,” Vogel said. “We started the game really well defensively and then the third quarter as well. Just really being locked into our coverages, making all the pass blocks, deflections, low man help, really competing on the ball. I think every seat a great tone for us.

“I thought Talen and Austin were also really good just dogging the basketball keeping their own man in front of them. If you keep your own guy in front of you and force him into forced possessions, you got a chance to get stops and get out on the break.”
