Uptown Funk hits Cheshire

When you home team is trailing, and nothing seems to be going your way – as supporters – what would you do?

A popular method normally is to get behind your team in order for them to claw themselves back into the game that they are behind in.

Or in Cheshire Phoenix fan Rob Jeffries’ case: stroll onto the court during a timeout and dance.

Over the last few months, a few viral videos have been posted of Mark Ronson’s smash hit Uptown Funk, featuring Bruno Mars.  The videos show people dancing along to upbeat tune.

Phoenix, who sit in the top five of the British Basketball League were trailing to Leeds Force at home when timeout was called. The stage was then set for Jeffries, a sports journalism graduate to strut his stuff.

“Well, [game announcer] Mike Shaft got on to playing it at games, and I challenge anybody to not tap their feet to the song as it does have a quite infectious beat,” said Jeffries

“I think it began by just having a little move or two, which rolled on each week at [Phoenix] games progressing from the higher spots of the bleachers being filmed, to dancing in front of supporters whenever Mike played it.

“The crowd seem to enjoy it, I’ve got as much rhythm as a dad at a disco, so I’m hoping when I do have kids in the years to come that I will get my practice in and be able to embarrass them to the fullest. For now, it gives fans something to enjoy beyond the game.”

Despite the funky dancing, Jeffries beloved Phoenix were edged 78-76 to the Force.
