The Los Angeles Lakers continued their up-and-down season with a narrow win over the Detroit Pistons (110-106). Frank Vogel chose to start the game with DeAndre Jordan and Avery Bradley, along with the Big Three of LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook.
The same lineup was on the floor in the third quarter when the Lakers made a 16-0 run as they built a 13-point lead ahead of the final period. After the game Vogel was asked about his starting lineup.
“The defensive length is the big positive,” he said. “When Anthony’s able to scramble around the three-point line with another big behind him protecting the basket, there’s a lot of positives defensively for that type of group. But obviously you’re compromised with your offensive spacing. It’s something we’ll continue to evaluate as the season goes along.
“And I will say that Dwight didn’t play tonight. We made a decision that if we’re going to look at this smaller second unit that one of our centers will play, not both. It’s not always going to be DJ, sometimes it’ll be Dwight. We could see Dwight in the starting lineup with DJ being the third center or whatnot. We’ll just continue to evaluate that going forward.”
