Crisis averted: Ja Morant has knee sprain

Preliminary imaging has revealed a left knee sprain for Memphis Grizzlies star point guard Ja Morant, the team announced.

Morant exited in the first quarter of the Grizzlies’ game against the Atlanta Hawks.

Further updates will eventually be provided as appropriate.

There will be more testing to come on Morant’s left knee and that will give the Grizzlies a clearer sense of the sprain’s severity, according to Adrian Wojnarowski, and once that’s done, they will know more about a timetable on a return.

The 22-year-old rejoined the team on the bench and was seen walking on his own without crutches, per Chris Herrington of The Daily Memphian.

Last season, Morant suffered a serious ankle sprain and got back on the court in less than three weeks.

He reportedly “amazed” those in the organization in how he attacked his rehab a year ago which is an encouraging sign for his knee sprain.

This season in 18 games, Morant is averaging 25.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, 7.1 assists and 1.7 steals per game in 33.9 minutes per game.
