DeMar DeRozan has made an amazing start to his season with the Chicago Bulls after joining the franchise this past summer.
DeRozan is averaging 26.9 points per game, the third-highest mark in the league. He’s also shooting a career-high 37.1% from beyond the 3-point arc.
On Monday night, he faced the Los Angeles Lakers, a team that was among those interested in the veteran swingman during the summer.
DeRozan revealed he was close to a deal to return to his hometown and play for the Lakers, but the ‘business side of things did not work out.’
“I felt like going to the Lakers was a done deal and that we were going to figure it out. I was going to come home,” DeRozan told Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports after scoring a game-high 38 points at Staples Center.
“The business side of things just didn’t work out. A couple of things didn’t align. It didn’t work out. It’s just part of the business, part of the game. My next option was definitely Chicago. So, looking back at it, it worked out well.”
The Bulls are among the best teams in the league with a 10-4 record. They are second in the Eastern Conference and a half-game back of the top-seed Wizards.
The Lakers are mildly disappointing so far with an 8-7 record and some bad losses, including two against the rebuilding Oklahoma City Thunder.
